STATUES "Broken Hands" 7" EP (PIR-027)

MP3:  "Husbands and Wives"

$5.50 ppd. within the USA
Three cuts of primo power-pop from Canada's STATUES grace this 7", one-half of the "Crooked Fingers, Broken Hands" set.  Simply put, these guys have the right hooks in the right places.  Look no further to find a better example than "Husbands and Wives," the A-side on this platter, which fuses punk and pop in anthemic fashion, sort of like the JAM's punkier moments.  Things get even more interesting on the flipside with "Soft Lives," a 58-second exercise in bounce-pop, and a swell take on the POINTED STICKS' "You Must Be Crazy."  Limited to 500 copies on "Coke bottle clear" vinyl; artwork by Matt Maranger.

ANTEENAGERS M.C. "(Illusions of the) Teens" 7" EP (PIR-021)

MP3:  "(Illusions of the) Teens"

$5.50 ppd. within the USA
Plastic Idol once again joins forces with ANTEENAGERS M.C. for another round of head-spinning rock 'n' roll, served with a twist (and parentheses in song titles).   You may know and love these guys from their roles in FRUSTRATION, OPERATION S, the NO-TALENTS, and others, and although you can hear echoes of the aforementioned bands on this record, one of AMC's greatest strengths is that they always sound like themselves, regardless of their diverse influence pool.  Four blasts from the French rock 'n' roll underground are showcased on this EP, including a stellar cover of the KICK's "Let's Get Back Together."  Limited to 500 copies on clear vinyl.

THE INTELLIGENCE "Debt & ESP" b/w "Chateau Bandit" 7" (PIR-032)

SOLD OUT - THANK YOU!

MP3:  "Debt & ESP"

Two more mind-bending tunes from the desk of Lars Finberg, Seattle songcharmer and "the brains" behind the INTELLIGENCE.  The former A-FRAMES and DIPERS member has been a busy boy since the Intelligence morphed into his full-time gig a couple years back, and whether fleshing out his sound with a full band or flying solo, like he does on this record, there is no question the man's work is ace.  Recordings from 2007 are unearthed on this single, pairing a groover ("Debt & ESP") with a shaker ("Chateau Bandit").  Both tunes were blown up nicely by Weasel Walter (XBXRX, FLYING LUTTENBACHERS, etc.).  Limited to 600 copies on black vinyl.

POPPETS "Get Back" 7" EP (PIR-031)

SOLD OUT - THANK YOU!

MP3:  "Get Back"

Sweden's the HEARTATTACKS called it quits earlier this year following the release of their second EP on Plastic Idol, "Stay/Go," but Magnus Andersson (guitar/voice) didn't waste any time finding a new outlet for his songwriting prowess--and he didn't have to look very far.  POPPETS is Magnus, his girlfriend Lina, and a drum machine, playing what the tastemakers at Victim of Time dubbed "hot blasting party songs."  Four more gems on this EP, sure to go down as a soundtrack for good times.  Pressed in an edition of 300 copies on black vinyl; sleeve by Magnus.

THE FLIP-TOPS "Dangerous Game" 7" EP (PIR-012)

$5.50 ppd. within the USA
MP3:  "Dangerous Game"

Portland's the FLIP-TOPS are back!  Infused with new blood and a profusion of new tunes, the Flip-Tops have streamlined the sound first heard on their "All Worked Up" LP, released on Rip Off Records in 2002.  Now, the inimitable vocals of Joel Jett (the MINDS, JETPACK) and guitar roar of longtime co-conspirator Rob Felkel (the MINDS, NIX) is augmented with sparkling guitar leads, a beefier rhythm section, and a more explosive sound in general.  The result here--two originals and a SIMPLETONES cover--is powerfully played pop, recorded and mixed exactly like it should be.  Limited to 500 copies on opaque blue vinyl, with another superb sleeve design from Jonas Norway.

DAN MELCHIOR UND DAS MENACE "Madame Nhu" b/w "So Real" 7" (PIR-028)

$5.50 ppd. within the USA
MP3:  "Madame Nhu"

That Dan Melchior knows his way around a song is hardly a secret; his mile-long discography, which includes releases on In The Red and Sympathy For The Record Industry and collaborations with HOLLY GOLIGHTLY and BILLY CHILDISH, speaks for itself.  More recently, Dan's trademark howl and witty musings have taken a turn for the off-kilter--perhaps a result of the "Messthetics" discs in heavy rotation at Melchior Manor--but this 45 finds him toning down slightly the weirdo vibe and giving us a couple unabashed hits, proving a great song is a great song no matter how you cook it.  Pressed on red vinyl, limited to 500 copies.

THE HEARTATTACKS "Stay/Go" 7" EP (PIR-019)

$5.50 ppd. within the USA
MP3:  "Stay/Go"

Last year, we blew through 500 copies of the Heartattacks' "Your Lies" EP (PIR-014) in a week's time.  So we asked for more.  Even Francis Kidd, front man of the FEATURES, whose "Floozie of the Neighborhood" the Heartattacks covered on "Your Lies," voiced his approval.  Magnus (BLACKS), Tomo (TOKYO KNIVES), and Zeta (DONTCARES) reprise their roles here, cranking out three loud, fast, ruling originals.  On the EP's title track, Magnus seemingly channels Mick Jones in double time; both tunes on the flipside are cut from the same spastic mold.  Junk E. Male (HENRY FIAT'S OPEN SORE) once again twiddled the knobs and made everything sound awesome.  Pressed on white vinyl, limited to 500 copies.

THE RETAINERS "She Likes To Get Attention" b/w "Super Space Missiles" 7" (PIR-025)

SOLD OUT - THANK YOU!

MP3:  "She Likes To Get Attention"

In their brief existence, this Minneapolis, Minnesota, garage punk outfit (drummer Eli also plays in BOYS CLUB) has issued a string of ripping vinyl on P. Trash, Fashionable Idiots, and their own Jilted! imprint.  Their fourth single, "She Likes To Get Attention" b/w "Super Space Missiles," extends the streak with two abrasive cuts, designed to shake foundations.  Slip this puppy onto the turntable between the REATARDS and the CARBONAS and you may have the perfect footbridge!  Pressed in an edition of 500 copies on transparent blue wax.

HANK IV "Dirty Poncho" b/w "Symptomatic" 7" (PIR-024)

$5.50 ppd. within the USA
MP3:  "Dirty Poncho"

"Dirty Poncho" b/w "Symptomatic" is the first 7-inch single from San Francisco, California's HANK IV (members of ICKY BOYFRIENDS, LEATHER UPPERS, RESINEATORS, etc.).  The title track is destined to be a classic Hank IV tune; a gripping narrative and locomotive-like pace hypnotizes you, and then a catchier-than-the-clap chorus knocks you on your ass.  Brilliant!  "Symptomatic" is a toe-tapper that boasts wicked dueling guitars and awesome lyrics.  Pressed in an edition of 500 copies; 400 on black vinyl and 100 hand-numbered copies on opaque yellow vinyl with goldenrod dust cover and resealable sleeve (sold at record release show only).

IMAGINARY ICONS "Off The Grid" b/w "Fun With Capital" 7" (PIR-022)

$5.50 ppd. within the USA
MP3:  "Off The Grid"

Brooklyn, New York's Imaginary Icons feature a cast that includes members of the DISSIMILARS, the SHOP FRONTS, MHz, the TIE REDS, and more.  Their debut single, released in 2006, was a snappy affair that channeled the spirit of post-punk, rather than the no-holds-barred garage-isms of their past.  "Off The Grid" b/w "Fun With Capital" is another stellar effort in a similar vein, albeit even more far-reaching.  The title track is a jangly proto-punker with a zippy groove, accented by helium-inflected vox and skronky sax; "Fun With Capital" makes effective use of barked lines, brittle guitars, and buzzing synths to drive home the point.  Pressed in an edition of 500 copies on Coke bottle clear wax.P3:

THE REMENBERS "It's" 7" EP (PIR-023)

$5.50 ppd. within the USA
MP3:  "It's"

Straight from Marseille, France, to your turntable, the REMENBERS make their vinyl debut with three primitive garage punkers delivered in jarring, needle-pegged fashion. The title track is a devastatingly powerful introduction, fueled by a thundering rhythm section, shards of guitar squall, and scornful vocals.  The B-side goes straight for the jugular with a pair of bouncy, speaker-shredding gems.
Limited to 500 copies on red vinyl.  Vive la France!

THE FEVERS "Get On Again" b/w "Can't Be True" 7" (PIR-018)

SOLD OUT - THANK YOU!

MP3:  "Get On Again"

A pair of brand new, exclusive tunes from everybody's favorite hit-makers, the FEVERS!  "Get On Again" is a classic Fevers-sounding tune with beautiful harmonies, fuzzy guitars, and a sprinkling of quirky keys.  "Can't Be True" is a bit brighter and more raw as it was captured "campfire style"--recorded live around a single microphone--and it finds the Fevers paying tribute to the bubblegum classics of years past as only they can.  Pressed in a limited edition of 500 on pink vinyl.

BOB BURNS AND THE BREAKUPS "Hydrostatic Heart" 7" EP (PIR-017)

$5.50 ppd. within the USA
MP3:  "Hydrostatic Heart"

Three amazing new songs from these hotshit Wisconsinites!  The title track is a blistering garage punker, played fast and furiously and with the requisite hooks and energy found in the genre's best.  The two tunes on the B-side take it to another level of awesome, adding a few twists and turns with CATHOLIC BOYS-like precision.  One listen to this gem and you'll be scrambling for more, guaranteed!  Pressed on clear vinyl, limited to 500 copies.

THE MANIKINS "Spend The Night Alone" 7" EP (PIR-015)

SOLD OUT - THANK YOU!

MP3:  "Spend The Night Alone"

The first United States release from this Swedish powerhouse!  The EP's title track, nicked from last year's "Lie, Cheat, and Steal" LP/CD (P. Trash), borrows a page from the Fabulous Andy G.'s (DEVIL DOGS) songbook, taking cues from '50s rock 'n' roll and '90s garage.  The two exclusive B-side cuts range from twangified power pop ("Still Afraid of Girls") to fist-pumping garage punk ("Take 5").  Limited to 500 copies on white vinyl, with a slick Jonas Norway-designed sleeve.

THE HEARTATTACKS "Your Lies" 7" EP (PIR-014)

SOLD OUT - THANK YOU!

MP3:  "Your Lies"

"Your Lies" is the first United States release for Sweden's the HEARTATTACKS (members of the BLACKS, TOKYO KNIVES, and DONTCARES).  The band's early material drew comparisons to the likes of TEENGENERATE and "Your Lies" doesn't ease up one bit, proving the Heartattacks are only getting better as time goes by.  This EP features three songs, including a blazing cover of a KBD-era classic, the FEATURES' "Floozie of the Neighborhood," pressed on gold wax and limited to 500 copies.

ANGRY ANGLES "Apparent-Transparent" 7" EP (PIR-016)
First pressing:  600 on "mixed" colored vinyl with silver/black labels
Second pressing:  600 on opaque yellow vinyl with yellow/black labels

SOLD OUT - THANK YOU!

MP3:  "Apparent-Transparent"

"Apparent-Transparent" is the latest crowd-pleasing vinyl release from Memphis/Atlanta uber-duo ANGRY ANGLES.  A collaborative endeavor of real-life couple Jay Lindsey (the REATARDS, FINAL SOLUTIONS, LOST SOUNDS, etc.) and Alix Brown (the LIDS), Angry Angles serve up two nicely contrasted originals on one side of this EP, followed by a superb cover of WIRE's "The 15th."  Now in its second pressing, limited to 600 copies on opaque yellow wax.

THE ANXIETIES "The De-Evolution Will Be Televised" 7" EP (PIR-011)

SOLD OUT - THANK YOU!

MP3:  "The De-Evolution Will Be Televised"

Eugene, Oregon's the ANXIETIES deliver three songs perfectly bound together by spastic vocals, dueling guitars, and pogo-friendly tempos.  The EP's WEIRDOS-like title track leaps off the vinyl and ends in the same fashion--smack dab in the middle of an anthemic bridge.  Side two's double shot strikes first with "Nowhere Zone," a ridiculously catchy two-minute toe-tapper that bounces around in a DICKIES vein.  A ballsy MOTORHEAD cover rounds out the record, flush with ripping guitar leads and good-timey vibes.  A keeper!

ANTEENAGERS MC "Let's Not Have a Party" 7" EP (PIR-006)

SOLD OUT - THANK YOU!

MP3:  "Les Conformistes"

France's ANTEENAGERS MC (members of OPERATION S, FRUSTRATION, the NO-TALENTS, STEVE & THE JERKS, etc.) is once again poised for world turntable domination thanks to their four-song "Let's Not Have a Party 7" EP.  This fine record continues the band's infectious pairing of '77-era and garage punk influences.  The EP's title track is a jangly number that references the likes of WIRE, SWELL MAPS, and the FALL, while the B-side takes on the frantic delivery of POPULAR SHAPES, KARATE PARTY, or LE SHOK.  Four songs, red vinyl.

DIGITAL LEATHER "Simulator" b/w "Dance 'til Dead" 7" (PIR-009)

SOLD OUT - THANK YOU!

MP3:  "Simulator"

Tempe, Arizona's DIGITAL LEATHER (members of the REATARDS, TOKYO ELECTRON, DESTRUCTION UNIT, the WONGS, etc.) makes their 7" vinyl debut with "Simulator" b/w "Dance 'til Dead."  Pressed on digitally-clear vinyl, and featuring original artwork by Matt Wong (the WONGS), "Simulator" b/w "Dance 'til Dead" is a brilliant showing of angst-ridden synth-punk in the spirit of JOY DIVISION, SUICIDE, the UNITS, or the SCREAMERS.  What else are you gonna do when the temps are pushin' 115?

THE MINDS "We Got The Pop" 7" EP (PIR-005)
First pressing:  500 copies on bubblegum-pink vinyl, pink sleeve
Second pressing:  300 copies on opaque green vinyl, green sleeve

SOLD OUT - THANK YOU!

MP3:  "We Got The Pop"

The MINDS' "We Got The Pop" 7" EP is the long-awaited follow-up to their incredible debut LP/CD "Plastic Girls" (Dirtnap/Alien Snatch).  Though the Minds have elicited comparisons to some of the more new wave-influenced Pacific Northwest bands, they are simply a great rock 'n' roll band at heart, fusing tuneful garage punk and power pop with tasteful synth action.  This 7" EP features three amazing songs and original artwork by Jonny Cat, of Jonny Cat Records, and Lucas Jones, of the ELECTRIC EYE.  Now in its second pressing, limited to 300 copies on opaque green vinyl.

THE DISSIMILARS "Landmine" 7" EP (PIR-004)

SOLD OUT - THANK YOU!

MP3:  "Landmine"

A spectacular three-song sophomore platter courtesy of San Diego's garage punk kingpins the DISSIMILARS.  Recorded in sterling Fuck-o-Phonic sound by the band themselves, these three cuts are louder, rawer, and more fucked up than their admittedly loud, raw, and fucked up debut.  This sounds like an eardrum-blowing marriage of "I'm a Criminal" era MOTARDS and the DUMMIES/SGT. 6 ASSAULT.  Lord have mercy!  Pressed on see-through blue vinyl.

BLACK DAHLIAS "Wednesday Night" 7" EP (PIR-003)

$5.50 ppd. within the USA
MP3:  "Wednesday Night"

Matt K. Shrugg (LOSIN' STREAKS, ex-ZODIAC KILLERS, etc.), Adam Miller (ex-MALLRATS), and Jeff Melendez (ex-MILHOUSE SMF/USA) are putting some serious pep in Sacramento's garage punk step as BLACK DAHLIAS.  Matt K.'s GREG GINN-like guitar work and disaffected wail exude "old school" charm, while Adam's bouncy bass lines and Jeff's rapid-fire drum fills provide plenty of punch.  "Wednesday Night" is a live favorite, a bona fide sing-along that captures Black Dahlias at their poppiest.  The B-side cuts, "Easy Way Out and "Mystery House," are more fiercely executed yet remarkably tuneful, due in part to CHRIS WOODHOUSE's (F.M. KNIVES, A-FRAMES, COACHWHIPS, etc.) spot-on production.

THE FOUR EYES "Rock & Role Playing" CD (PIR-002)

$5.50 ppd. within the USA
MP3:  "Jackpot"

Following a string of brilliant 7" and CD-R releases, the debut full-length CD from Sacramento's the Four Eyes is finally upon us!  Rejoice!  "Rock & Role Playing" is geek-pop at its finest.  Think DEAD MILKMEN meets the HI-FIVES, or the BANANAS after a dose of Ritalin (i.e., less spazz, more pop) and some singing lessons.  Recorded by CHRIS WOODHOUSE (A-FRAMES, FM KNIVES, DUCHESS OF SAIGON).

DUCHESS OF SAIGON "Hootenanny" 7" EP (PIR-001)

$5.50 ppd. within the USA

MP3:  "Giddy Up"

Sacramento's Duchess of Saigon meld the swagger of mid-'90s garage bands with the panache of art-punk in a pop context.  Adding to the unique flavor of this boy/girl guitar/drums duo is a harmonizing vocal approach that has drawn comparisons to the likes of the BEACH BOYS and the CARPENTERS.  An exceptional, genre-defying record!  Recorded by Chris Woodhouse (A-FRAMES, FM KNIVES).
